The T Level is a 2 year programme and will include a 9 week (minimum) industry placement and a Technical Qualification, where you will also choose your specialist occupation. Minimum of 5 GCSE grades 9-4, including: English Grade 9-4 Maths Grade 9-4T Levels in Engineering follow GCSEs and will be equivalent to three A-levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for working life.
T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.
The two T Levels pathways being offered are:
- T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing, Processing and Control - (Fitting and assembly technologies)
- T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing: Design and Development - (Mechanical or Electronic)
Year 1:
- Working within the engineering and manufacturing sectors
- Engineering and manufacturing past, present, and future
- Engineering representations
- Essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing
- Essential science for engineering and manufacturing
- Materials and their properties
- Mechanical principles
- Electrical and electronic principles
- Mechatronics
- Engineering and manufacturing control systems
- Quality management
- Health and safety principles and coverage
- Business, commercial and financial awareness
- Professional responsibilities, attitudes, and behaviours
- Stock and asset management
- Continuous improvement
- Project and programme management
Year 2:
Pathway specific project:
- T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing, Processing and Control (Fitting and assembly technologies) - conducted in a controlled environment 25 hours and 15 minutes externally set assignment.
Or
- The T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing: Design and Development (Mechanical or Electronic) – conducted in a controlled environment both exams are 34 hours externally set assignment.
Your course will be delivered through a variety of lectures, tutorials, workshops and projects that will encompass a wide range of engineering theory and practice and will prepare you for specialising further in Higher Education, or for embarking directly on a career in the engineering industry.
Theoretical units will be linked wherever possible to practical tasks that will be designed to incorporate realistically the working conventions found within the industry.
You may be asked to complete projects for outside clients and respond to professional briefs. Deadlines for productions will be real and non-negotiable when working under these conditions.
An industry placement will be a requirement of this course. 1 day a week will be spent in industry at a company that interests the learner. The industry placement requires learners to complete 315 hours (approximately 45 days).
Successful completion of a Engineering T Level will allow for progression to the appropriate Level 4, 5 or 6 Engineering qualification. Alternatively, and with employment in a qualifying role, progression to a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship in the appropriate specialist pathway could be possible.
There may be a cost for purchasing equipment or uniform for this course. Find out about financial support available.
T Level Technical Qualification in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing (Level 3)
This course is delivered over 4 days at CECAMM, and one day in the workplace for the industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).
UCAS points will only be allocated to the overall T Level grade. Students must achieve at least an overall pass grade to receive UCAS points.
