Supporting Schools and Students

We are committed to providing high-quality careers guidance and school liaison support to help students make informed decisions about their future. Our dedicated team works closely with schools across the Isle of Wight to offer a range of engaging activities and services, including:

  • School Visits & Presentations – We visit schools to provide talks on further education, higher education, apprenticeships, and career pathways.
  • Individual / group tours - These are ideal for learners who are uncertain about their options or prefer a more personalised experience
  • Taster Sessions & Workshops – Students can experience college life through hands-on sessions in various subject areas.
  • College Open Events – Explore our campus, meet tutors, and discover the opportunities available at The Isle of Wight College.
  • Employer & Industry Links – We connect students with employers to enhance their understanding of career options.

Enhancing the Student Experience

Our Student Executive Team plays a key role in representing the student voice. We are continually looking at ways to improve engagement and provide more opportunities for students to share their ideas. Initiatives under development include:

  • Alternative Social Media Platforms – Expanding beyond Facebook to reach students via TikTok and other platforms. While students cannot manage these accounts directly, they can contribute content for our team to upload.
  • Dedicated Online Spaces – Exploring options for a student-run Canvas page where Student Exec members can share updates and engage with peers.
  • Student Feedback Opportunities – Increasing the visibility of student voice initiatives through QR codes and digital suggestion boxes.
  • Peer-led Meetings – Encouraging Student Exec members to gather feedback from their groups before presenting at formal meetings.
  • Student-led Newsletter – Providing a platform for students to create and share content about college life, supported by Unloc and other organisations

Connecting with External Support Agencies

To further support our students, we are working on bringing in external agencies to hold regular information sessions in the concourse area. These will provide students with direct access to support services covering topics such as mental health, career advice, and wellbeing.
