Five GCSE's with a minimum grade 2 or above, that includes Math's and English

Who the course is for
Anyone with an interest in engineering, but no prior knowledge. You will gain an insight into what CECAMM delivers, setting you up to progress onto a more specialised route at Level 2.
What you will learn

QET1/001 Introduction to Working in Engineering – In this unit students will learn how to:

  1. Know how to work safely in an engineering environment.  
  2. Know how to communicate effectively in engineering.  
  3. Know how to use engineering hand tools safely.  
  4. Know how to identify materials and components used in engineering 

QET1/002 Introduction to Machining Engineering Materials - In this unit students will learn how to:  

  1. Know different machining processes.  
  2. Be able to prepare for machining activities.  
  3. Be able to carry out machining activities.  
  4. Be able identify that machining activities are carried out correctly 

QET1/003 Introduction to Cutting, Forming and Assembling Engineering Materials - In this unit students will learn how to:  

  1. Know the different cutting, forming and assembling processes. 
  2. Be able to prepare for cutting, forming and assembling activities. 
  3. Be able to carry out cutting, forming and assembling activities. 
  4. Be able to check cutting, forming and assembling activities are carried out correctly. 

QET1/004 Introduction to Joining Engineering Materials - In this unit students will learn how to:

  1. Know the different joining processes.  
  2. Be able to prepare for joining activities.  
  3. Be able to carry out joining activities.  
  4. Be able to check joining activities are carried out correctly. 

 

Students will also undertake enrichment activities to help support their engineering knowledge and practical skills. Activities could consist of: Bridge building, additive manufacturing, engineering challenges, guest speakers, air engines, composites and marine activities.  

How you will learn
Learning will be delivered via lectures in the classroom and practical sessions in the workshop. Students will also take part in tutorials and E-Learning sessions, as well as independent study as required. We have outside speakers visit CECAMM to give special lectures on occasion to which all students will be invited.
Work placement
Level 1 students will study Work Skills as part of their course.
Progression
Successful completion of the Level 1 course will lead you onto our Level 2 courses in Mechanical, Electronics and Marine Engineering.

Additional information
This course is delivered over 4-5 days, with English and Maths timetabled at CECAMM for those who need to retake their GCSEs.
