Who the course is for

Overview of Role:  

The Manufacturing Industry offers an exciting and varied career both in the UK & abroad providing a broad spectrum of opportunities for people to work in a technically advanced and innovative environment. 

The UK’s Manufacturing Industry is highly regarded worldwide for its innovation and manufacturing excellence and requires a high degree of skill & knowledge across all levels of their organisations. 

A Lean Manufacturing Operative will be expected to carry out their work safely and meet the exacting quality standards demanded in a fast paced and efficient processing environment and develop into a multi-skilled operator through process ownership. ?A lean manufacturing operative can be required to carry out manufacturing activities on multiple products with different specifications consecutively e.g. automotive manufacturing – Multi models manufacturing results in the manufacturing of different models of vehicle with different specification variants within a high volume environment.

Entry Requirements:  

There are no formal entry requirements but each employer might state their own requirements. 

Duration:  

The apprenticeship will typically take between 12-18 months to complete.

What you will learn

Delivery:  

Apprentices will complete work-based learning and will be paid a wage, gaining valuable knowledge and experience. In-house training will be provided by the employer with an Assessor visiting and supporting in the work place. Further training will be provided at the Isle of Wight College, depending on the needs of the learner and the employer. This method of delivery allows for a flexible approach which is tailored to each apprenticeship.  

Qualification:  

Apprentices must achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Manufacturing (Knowledge & Skills).  

Apprentices without level 1 (or equivalent) qualifications in English and maths must achieve this level and take the test for level 2 prior to the end point assessment.  

Assessment:  

The apprenticeship will end with an End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours each apprentice has developed. Employers will decide when the apprentice is ready to be assessed. 

 

The End Point Assessment consists of:  

  • Observation with questions and answers 
  • Professional discussion 
Progression
Apprentices will go on to full time employment or a higher level apprenticeship standard.   Examples of relevant job roles within the manufacturing sector covered by this apprenticeship are:?Team Member Production;?Manufacturing Production Operative; Manufacturing Assembly Operative; Manufacturing Inspection/Quality Assurance Operative; Manufacturing Logistics Operative; Manufacturing Material Handling Operative; Manufacturing Process/Finishing Operative.
