You will normally need to have a least one of the following: 3 GCSE’S at grades 4 or above including Maths and English or a level 1 hospitality qualification.  
Who the course is for
This course is ideal for individuals who are either currently working in or looking to start a career in the hospitality and catering industry. It suits those who want a broad introduction to the sector or who are looking to develop multi-skilled abilities across a variety of hospitality roles. It’s particularly relevant for those seeking roles in food and beverage service, front office, housekeeping, or professional cookery.
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

You will gain a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge needed to work across a range of hospitality environments. Key learning areas include:

  • An introduction to the structure and roles within the hospitality industry

  • Front office operations and customer service

  • Food and beverage service skills

  • Housekeeping practices and standards

  • Basic cookery and kitchen operations

  • Food hygiene, health and safety regulations

  • Core employability skills including communication, problem-solving, and teamwork

How you will learn

Learning is practical and work-focused, often delivered in a simulated hospitality environment or through real workplace experience. You’ll be supported by industry-experienced tutors who will help you build confidence and competence across different service areas.

Assessment is mainly through practical demonstrations and workplace-based tasks, ensuring your skills are relevant and aligned to real industry expectations.

Progression

This qualification provides a strong platform for career development in hospitality. After completion, you could progress into roles such as:

  • Food and beverage assistant

  • Front office receptionist

  • Housekeeping operative

  • Commis chef

You may also choose to progress to a Level 3 qualification, for example the Diploma Hospitality, Supervision and Leadership or the Diploma in Professional Cookery.

As part of the course, students are required to wear a uniform, which can be purchased through a local supplier during enrolment. If you are eligible for financial support through the college bursary, the cost of the uniform can be covered as part of your bursary award.
