Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4/C or above including Maths and English language. 

Progressing students may require a minimum of Level 2 qualification in your chosen subject at Merit or above and English and Maths at Level 2. 

Who the course is for

Esports is defined as organised competitive gaming, which is human versus human, either as individuals or in teams. The Esports industry is a fast-growing global industry. This qualification includes a breadth of transferable skills that enable you to experience different areas of esports to aid your progression to employment, directly or via further study. 

Esports offers a unique opportunity to study a sector that crosses over multiple subject areas such as sport, marketing, enterprise, IT and the creatives. It provides an opportunity for alignment of social, physical, mental and financial skills into one qualification to deepen and expand learning. 

These are skills that are highly valued in the changing and fluid workplace. You must apply strategy, skill and teamwork to be successful. 

What you will learn

Over the two years you will study 15 units. 

The core units are as follows: 

  • Introduction to Esports 
  • Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis 
  • Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry 
  • Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players 
  • Esports Events 

The remaining units are to be confirmed. 

 The mandatory content allows learners to develop their technical skills across range of assessment within the units, supported by underpinning knowledge. All assessment relates to the Esports industry. 

How you will learn

You will be taught in a variety of ways to include workshops, lectures and seminars whilst also undertaking industry placement, to help support and underpin the theoretical knowledge gained in class. Digital methods of teaching and learning will be embedded to enable you to access materials at all times.

This course is offered in conjunction with GCSEs for English and Maths where required. These qualifications aim to develop skills valued by employers. 


Progression
After the completion of this course, learners can progress to employment in the Esports industry, possibly via an apprenticeship in a related industry. This course is also suitable for students that wish to progress to further studies in media, sports, computing, business or enterprise. This course allows for progression to Higher Education through accumulating UCAS points.
