Entry requirements

For this qualification you will need a minimum of 4 GCSE grades at level 3 including maths and English.
Who the course is for
This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. Learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children to undertake this qualification.
What you will learn
A variety of mandatory units will be covered, including play, learning and development, equality and diversity, health and safety, positive behaviour and safeguarding.
How you will learn
You will undertake 14 mandatory units covering core knowledge and skills competencies. Knowledge criteria will be covered via assignment work. Practical skills will be assessed as part of your work placement over 2 days a week which are assessed by assessor visits to your setting throughout the year.

Progression

This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care. For further details of careers in the early years, please refer to the Early Years Progression Map, which can be found on the NCFE website. This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce. Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

  • nursery practitioner
  • classroom assistant
  • pre-school practitioner
