Who the course is for

For those who wish to test their aspirations for working within the construction industry.

What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn
Theory work and exams will require good maths and English skills that have either been attained/ developed on the previous L1 study years or can be verified at interview stage. A full level 2 Diploma which includes brick, block, extended cavity wall work, one brick walling practical builds and setting out in both lessons and exams. Decorative brickwork and other joint finishes. The accuracy of build in practical exams has less tolerance than previous levels. The course covers the following skills: • Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
How you will learn

This course will introduce you to a range of construction trades. Bricklaying including: Health and Safety, Principles of Building, Solid Walling, Cavity Walling and Interpreting drawings to set out masonry structures.

Progression

Level 3 Bricklaying, Employment, Self employment. There are opportunities for Bricklayers all over the United Kingdom. Employers range from small businesses to large organisations. In large companies there may be opportunities for experienced carpenters to become team leaders or supervisors. Some experienced Bricklayers become self-employed and set up their own businesses.

Qualifications you will get

City and Guilds level 2 diploma in bricklaying

Additional information

You will be required to wear PPE, including safety footwear and work trousers. All practical Carpentry and Joinery tools and equipment will be provided.
