Who the course is for

This qualification is for anyone who wishes to work within the Animal Care and Management industry, or wishes to pursue it with further study at University level. It has been designed to deliver a high level of knowledge about the industry as well as the occupational skills required to enter the industry. The T Level is a 2 year program and will include a 9 week (minimum) industry placement and a Technical Qualification, where you will also choose a specialist occupation - Animal Management and Behaviour or Animal Management and Science.

What you will learn

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector including sustainability, animal related legislation, the principles of biosecurity and the employment rights and responsibilities and progression opportunities within the animal management sector. In addition to the core content, each student will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content - either Animal Management and Behaviour or Animal Management and Science. Some of these topics will include animal health and husbandry practices. Animal Management and Behaviour will also focus on the principles and practices of animal behaviour and you will design and implement a training programme with an animal. Animal Management and Science will focus on the principles and practices of animal biology and you will perform a variety of laboratory experiments to complete a research project.

How you will learn

Your learning will combine classroom theory and practical learning and include industry placement, which will provide you with a real experience of the workplace. Practical skills will be developed in our on-site Animal Unit and laboratories.

Work placement

9 week (minimum) industry placement - totalling over 315 hours across the 2 years

Progression

You will have the industry knowledge and experience to progress into roles like: Animal Care Assistant, Zookeeper, Dog handler, Horse riding instructor, or go onto higher education to study Animal Behaviour, Zoology or Veterinary Nursing. Speak to your careers adviser to find out more.
