Our Public Services and Business students recently had the privilege of supporting a truly special community occasion as volunteers at the Medina Marching Band 50th Anniversary Tattoo.
The landmark event brought together visiting marching bands from across the mainland, alongside dignitaries, performers and hundreds of spectators, all gathering to celebrate five decades of music, tradition and community spirit. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to play an active role in a major local event while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Throughout the day, students took on a variety of important responsibilities to help ensure the celebrations ran smoothly. Their duties included assisting with event set-up, managing arrivals, guiding performers to rehearsal areas, welcoming guests and supporting car parking operations. Every task was approached with enthusiasm, professionalism and a positive attitude.
The experience provided students with an excellent opportunity to develop and apply key employability skills in a real-world environment. From communication and customer service to teamwork, leadership and event management, the day offered invaluable practical learning that cannot always be replicated in the classroom.
Just as importantly, the event enabled students to make a meaningful contribution to the local community. By supporting such a significant celebration, they demonstrated the importance of volunteering and community engagement while representing the college to an exceptionally high standard.
The positive impact of their efforts did not go unnoticed. Event organisers praised the students for their commitment, professionalism and willingness to help wherever needed, reflecting the values and dedication they bring to all aspects of college life.
Opportunities like the Medina Marching Band 50th Anniversary Tattoo are an important part of the student experience, helping young people build confidence, develop workplace-ready skills and create valuable connections within the community.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Medina Marching Band for inviting our students to be part of such a memorable milestone celebration.
Congratulations to everyone involved. Your hard work, enthusiasm and professionalism made a real difference, and you should all be incredibly proud of your achievements.
