Jonathan Duggan, a Former Detective, now Pip2 Police Staff Investigator with the Investigations Work Force Development Team. (responsible for the recruitment and development of those officers on the detective pathway), recently visited The Isle of Wight College to speak with our Public Services, Forensic Science, and Criminal Justice BTEC Level 3 students.
During the morning session, Jonathan shared his insights into the diverse range of career opportunities available within the police force. He emphasised how the courses students are currently undertaking can act as a pathway into various roles within the constabulary.
Some of the job roles discussed included:
- Police Constable
- Crime Scene Investigator (CSI)
- Detective
- Special Constable
- Cybercrime Analyst
- Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)
- Public Safety Officer
Jonathan’s presentation highlighted the importance of understanding both the operational and investigative aspects of policing. He also spoke about the critical role of teamwork and communication in solving crimes and serving the community.
The students had the opportunity to ask questions, gaining valuable insight into what a career in the police force entails. Many were inspired by the wide range of specialisms, from frontline policing to investigative work, and how their current studies align with these pathways.
