The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied. For this course, a minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4/C or above normally including Maths and English language. In addition, applicants must hold a valid Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing. Progressing students without English or Maths at GCSE grade 4/C will be required to study these as part of their programme of study.
Who the course is for
The Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training is a qualification that enables successful applicants to practice as a fully qualified Personal Trainer, and be able to take on and work with clients on a professional basis to generate income. The course prepares learners to work 1-to-1 with potential clients and groups in order to assess, plan, deliver and review clients and training programmes in a range of environments. Additionally providing an understanding of business acumen and adequate nutrition. This qualification is aimed at people who currently hold a valid Level 2 Gym Instructing qualification and wish to progress further into Personal Training and build their own client base or progress their professional skills further to increase opportunitie within a fitness organisation.
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

You will undertake a number of units covering core knowledge and skills competencies in variety of topics essential to working as a Personal Trainer Topics will include:

  • Applied anatomy and physiology for activity, health and fitness
  • Client motivation and lifestyle management
  • Programming personal training sessions
  • Delivering personal training sessions
  • Nutrition to support a physical activity programme
  • Business acumen for personal trainers
How you will learn
You will undertake learning and assessment in a range of environments and methods. Examples would include classroom and ICT based learning, practical participation and demonstrations of competence within a Gym setting and other environments such as exercise studios, sports halls and outdoor exercise.
Progression
This qualification allows you to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for employment and/or career progression in a fitness-based orgnaisation or within your own business. Upon successful completion, you can progress to a number of further qualifications such as Level 3 Exercise Referral, Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy, Level 4 Strenghtening & Conditioning etc
