Who the course is for

Overview of Role:  

There are two distinctly different job roles within this occupational profile: Hairdresser and Barber. Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men.  

Hairdressers and barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Duration:  

The apprenticeship will typically take 24 months to complete.

What you will learn

Delivery:  

Apprentices will complete work-based learning and will be paid a wage, gaining valuable knowledge and experience. In-house training will be provided by the employer with an Assessor visiting and supporting in the work place. This apprenticeship includes 1 day a week in college for the technical knowledge and practical skills delivery. 

Qualification:  

Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Hairdressing/Barbering)? 

All apprentices will complete the core skills and knowledge (Part 1) and will choose the occupational option route for hairdressing or barbering (Part 2)  

Assessment:  

The apprenticeship will end with an End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours each apprentice has developed. Employers will decide when the apprentice is ready to be assessed. 

The End Point Assessment consists of:  

  • A practical assessment  

  • Oral questioning  

Career Progression:  

Achievement of the standard makes you eligible for?State Registration with the Hair Council.  

A career in hairdressing offers many interesting career options which includes working in a hair salon, spa, hotel, care home, cruise ship or holiday resort. ?
