View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).
You will be required to complete a simple pre-interview task (written)
We recommend that you have studied successfully at level 2/GCSE for English and maths (grade 4+) to be appropriately prepared for studying Access to Higher Education. Some universities will consider applicants with functional skills level 2. You should check with the university you are interested in applying to what their entry requirements are for the degree pathway you wish to pursue.
Exceptional entry to the course will be considered based on evidence of life experiences, aptitude and commitment.
Adults who would like to improve their career prospects by studying at degree level. Most university courses require level three qualifications in subjects which either relate to the degree content and/or demonstrate a level of academic competency to be ready to study at degree level.
This course really does enable students to pursue their dream careers.
You will combine and study four level 3 modules in various disciplines, such as Psychology, Sociology, Human Physiology, English, Gender & Sexuality, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, etc., which will give you the required UCAS points in the right disciplines to get onto the right university course. You will also complete a programme of academic study skills to equip you with the skills and experience to be able to study successfully at university level.
You will be learning in a classroom (or laboratory) environment for the hours you are timetabled to be in college. In addition, we recommend that you allow an equal amount of time for independent study, which will include reading, research, and writing. You will be provided with materials and guidance to support all of your independent study.
You will need to have access to a computer and the internet. Note, we do have computer facilities here at the college but these are not available to take off site.
Students who graduate with the Access to Higher Education Diploma go onto their chosen university course and launch great careers. Some students choose to access their chosen career via apprenticeship scheme too.
Learners with an Access to HE Diploma in Engineering Science can embark on degrees in many subjects including Physics, Maths, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Electrical Engineering to name a few. Learners who have successfully completed the diploma and a degree can progress into successful careers within Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace and Electrical Engineering. Furthermore, previous learners have gone onto work in Computer Science, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying.
You will achieve the nationally recognised Access to Higher Education Diploma in your specified pathway. You will achieve ‘credits’ in each subject and these are defined as PASS, MERIT, and DISTINCTION. Offers from universities to study will usually specify the grade profile required to secure your place.
You will be given support to complete your UCAS application, write your personal statement and to prepare for your university interviews. Relevant voluntary work, vocationally relevant employment and previous experience will be invaluable in strengthening your application to university and will greatly improve your prospects.
Your tuition fee loan will be cancelled on graduation from your university course. Some students, under the age of 24, will be eligible for free study if they have not already studied at level 3 – we will be able to advise you in this regard at interview.
