Entry Requirements

The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied.

There may be additional entry requirements for a small number of specialist courses. If this course is one of these specialist courses, additional entry requirements will be stated below.

WHAT WILL THE AUDITION INVOLVE?

The audition will involve a group warm up, some contact work, learning a short dance and performing monologues learnt prior to the audition.  We are looking to see that you can work with other people, you can think on your feet and that you have learnt your lines.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

The Level 2 Diploma is for students who want a general qualification in dance and drama. The course is practical/studio based, but is supported by some classroom sessions. All assignments are based on activities of people who work in the performing arts industry. You will need to be passionate about the area, be willing to try new things and find out more about this specialist art form.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

You learn dance and drama skills, as well as how to devise your own plays and choreograph dance pieces. You will learn to work with others. Students also work on their singing, develop musical theatre skills and learn about the performing arts as a business. Including research into the background of this area of work.

DANCE STUDIO FACILITIES

Learn & rehearse in our purpose-built Dance Studio.

HOW WILL I LEARN?

You will take part in dance classes and drama workshops in our purpose built dance studio.   There will also be some classroom based activities that will equip you knowledge of the art form and the vocational opportunities beyond performance. The qualification is exam free, so suits all learning styles. We assess you continuously throughout the course, giving you general feedback in class and more formal feedback when we mark your work. Both aim to help you achieve your full potential.  Your job is to engage, enjoy and learn.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?

A Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*-E. Students gaining a Diploma in Performing Arts will have access to a range of career and further education opportunities. Some students may choose to continue their studies with the BTEC Extended National Diploma in Performing Arts, others move on further training or into work. The skills learned on the course are essential for any employment, and are especially relevant for work which involves dealing with the general public, or where confidence is important.

ADDITIONAL  INFORMATION

Audition: Students will be asked to audition by taking part in a workshop. This is an important exercise to ensure that candidates are willing to participate and can work with other people. You do not need any particular performing arts skills for this, and there is no need to prepare a dance piece.
