WHAT IS THE MOVING ON PROGRAMME?

Moving On is perfect for well motivated learners with specific educational needs (SEN) who need to develop life skills, work skills and to acquire more independent study skills. The course is based within the college, with supported time outside college in a workplace if this can be arranged.

The course is a one-year programme (but may be extended in exceptional circumstances). It will usually be offered to follow a transition year at college either with Foundation Learning, or if a learner has been on another vocational programme at college and needs to develop more independence.

THE COURSE WILL

  • Develop young adulthood skills with a focus on communication
  • Develop skills in making and repairing friendships
  • Develop independent travel if required
  • Gain experience and understanding of working in a real workplace
  • Develop an understanding of the needs of others.
  • Develop self-regulating strategies to manage behaviours (positive behaviour support)
  • Develop the skills to take ownership of their own actions
  • Enable students to become better equipped to make informed choices about their lives
  • Develop functional English and maths skills
  • Enable students to work towards individualised goals

A course interview will be required to discuss your past learning experiences to ensure that this is the right programmes for you. We may offer you an alternative if it is not.  Successful completion of this interview is required before a place on the programme can be offered.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE LEAD TO?

Moving On could lead directly to a vocational course at college, or a further year to develop skills on a Foundation Learning course. The main aim of the programme is to prepare all learners to be ready for further vocational study or the Moving Up programme which will lead to a Supported Internship.
