Last week Platform One College of Music announced the exciting news that they are rebranding as Platform One Creative Education. This is significant for Island education and will pave the way for the development of new departments that embrace the Cultural and Creative Industries both at Post 16 and Higher Education.
Platform One first opened its doors in 1999 and has gone on to produce many successful musicians, including global sensations Wet Leg.
The news of a new Sustainable Fashion Department - which will open in September 2023 – will be based in the historic Wadhams building, formerly occupied by Top Shop.
Study programmes will include a full time Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three full A Levels.
This programme will offer the first full-time fashion course for Post 16 students – working with longstanding partner, the Isle of Wight College.
Principal of the Isle of Wight College, Ros Parker OBE, says:
"We are delighted that Platform One are embarking on this exciting new venture, which is excellent for the Island and further extends our collaborative relationship. We wish them every success".
Core staff will be complemented by industry professionals, masterclasses and workshops.
Students will have the opportunity to work on live briefs, competitions and events that link with industry specialists and sustainable pioneers.
