Our students had a highly successful and truly inspiring trip to Thailand. Taking place as part of the Turing Scheme, and delivered with the valued support of our partners at Education & Cultural Exchange Thailand, the visit has given students an extraordinary opportunity to develop their skills through immersive, real‑world learning focused on eco‑tourism, sustainability and cultural understanding.

Throughout the trip, students have taken part in a wide range of hands‑on activities that brought sustainability to life. They worked alongside local communities and businesses to understand traditional and environmentally responsible practices — from picking tea on hillside plantations, learning about sustainable cultivation methods, to planting rice by hand in water‑filled paddies, gaining first‑hand insight into the care, labour and environmental balance required to produce staple crops. Students also explored traditional food production techniques, including pounding rice and preparing meals using local ingredients, strengthening practical skills while deepening their understanding of sustainable food systems.

Cultural learning was a key part of the journey. Students participated in respectful community experiences such as offering food during a morning alms ceremony with Buddhist monks, observing traditions rooted in gratitude, humility and social responsibility. Visits to local craft and weaving centres allowed students to see how traditional skills are preserved and shared across generations, supporting livelihoods while minimising environmental impact.

Beyond structured activities, students embraced opportunities to explore Thailand’s natural environment — trekking through forested areas, crossing streams, and reflecting on the relationship between tourism, conservation and community well‑being. These moments encouraged teamwork, resilience and adaptability, while reinforcing the importance of responsible travel and environmental stewardship. Together, these experiences have helped students build confidence, communication, problem‑solving and employability skills, while broadening their worldview and deepening their appreciation of global cultures and sustainable practices. It has been an enriching and transformative experience for everyone involved, and one that will have a lasting impact far beyond the trip itself.

We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing every opportunity with curiosity, respect and enthusiasm, and thank you to the staff that made the trip possible.
