Today, the Isle of Wight College was delighted to welcome both of the Island’s MPs, Joe Robertson and Richard Quigley, for an insightful visit showcasing how the College ensures inclusive learning for all students particularly students with high needs and special educational needs (SEND).
The visit began in the Pathways department, which provides tailored courses for students with additional needs, including profound and multiple learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The MPs toured the purpose-built facilities, including the immersive sensory room, the adapted kitchen, and classrooms where they met students engaged in learning.
They also explored the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) immersive interactive room, a cutting-edge resource that benefits the entire College and plays a vital role in training for students in areas such as Health and Social Care.
The tour continued with a look at the new building works and the renovated College restaurant, highlighting the College’s commitment to creating modern, accessible learning environments.
Finally, the MPs visited the Animal Care department, where they met some of the College’s resident animals—including a friendly bearded dragon!
We extend our sincere thanks to Joe Robertson and Richard Quigley for taking the time to see the incredible work happening at the Isle of Wight College. Their visit was an opportunity to demonstrate how we strive to make education inclusive and accessible for all students, regardless of ability.
Special thanks also go to Ros Parker, Hilary Richardson, Clair Etchell-Johnson and Samantha Rooney for supporting today’s visit.
