Real-World Issues, Creative Solutions

To strengthen academic links with the University of Portsmouth’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Isle of Wight College students were invited to join a university-led fraud prevention competition. Each team created an original and impactful video presentation on a fraud-related topic of their choice. Four Isle of Wight College student teams took part—two from Level 3 Forensic Science and Criminal Justice and two from Uniformed Public Services. Topics ranged from victim grooming to impersonation scams. A judging panel from Action Fraud and University of Portsmouth criminology lecturers praised the students for their creativity, research, and communication. The Level 3 Year 2 Uniformed Public Services team won overall, with a standout presentation on holiday accommodation fraud on the Isle of Wight.
