A group of talented students from The Isle of Wight College demonstrated exceptional mathematical skill at the MEI Maths Regional Final, held at the University of Sussex’s Brighton campus on Friday 21st March 2025.
The event brought together some of the region’s brightest young mathematicians, offering a challenging and inspiring environment for teams to test their problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. Representing the College with pride, three student teams – grouped by grade – competed in the final, all achieving outstanding results in a field of eight highly competitive teams.
Taking home first place 🥇 were the brilliantly named Ein2steins: Lottie Morris, Lenny Njenga, Tyler Pickett and Logan Phillips. Their teamwork and sharp analytical thinking earned them the top spot and well-deserved recognition from both judges and peers.
Close behind, two College teams tied for second place 🥈:
Funkies – Elliott Stewart, Liam Cox, Bobby Hope and Blake Bruce-Daly – impressed with their logical approach and calm under pressure, while Go Forths – Leona Ram, Lily Roy, Summer Broome and George Wilkinson-Silk – showcased creativity, collaboration, and strong mathematical reasoning.
The College’s success at the competition highlights not only the dedication and talent of the students involved, but also the strength of support and teaching within the maths department.
A College representative commented:
“We’re incredibly proud of all three teams. Competing at this level and achieving such fantastic results is a real testament to the students’ hard work, determination and passion for mathematics. They’ve been a credit to the College.”
Congratulations to all students involved – your achievements have firmly established the Isle of Wight College as a strong contender in regional maths competitions and will no doubt inspire future students to take part and aim high.
