Trading in spreadsheets for snowboards
A group of intrepid Business learners swapped their usual classroom environment for the crisp chill of The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead and what a shift it was.
As part of an experiential learning initiative, the students dived (or rather, skied) headfirst into the world of alpine sports. With no prior experience required, they strapped on boots, clipped into boards or skis, and took to the slopes with a mix of enthusiasm and just the right amount of nervous energy.
But this trip wasn’t just about learning to carve down the beginner’s hill. It was a hands-on lesson in teamwork, resilience, communication, and adaptability. Navigating a slope demands trust in yourself and in your teammates—plus the ability to adapt quickly when you fall (sometimes spectacularly). The learners found that these challenges mirrored the very same skills they’ll need in the business world.
Confidence grew as bruises turned into breakthroughs. Some mastered the art of balance on a snowboard, while others found a rhythm with skis. Everyone walked away with a sense of accomplishment and maybe a few sore muscles to match.
What better way to test business fundamentals than by learning to fall, laugh, get back up, and push forward on snow?
