Exciting changes are on the horizon at Isle of Wight College, as work officially gets underway on a major £32.8 million redevelopment that will shape the future of learning on the Island.
Earlier this year, we reached an important milestone by marking the official ground breaking of our brand-new teaching facilities. The ceremony brought together partners, civic leaders and colleagues from across education — all united by a shared vision to create something truly special for our students and community.
Building for the Future
This transformational project will introduce a new Welcome Hub and a modern two-storey teaching building, creating an inspiring new entrance to the College. But it’s much more than just a new building. The development is designed to give our students hands-on, real-world learning experiences in environments that reflect industry settings.
- New facilities will include:
- Specialist vocational learning spaces
- Flexible, future-ready classrooms
- Industry-standard training kitchens
- A training restaurant open to the public
- Dedicated areas for performing arts, hospitality, travel and tourism, and technical subjects
These spaces will support key industries on the Isle of Wight — especially hospitality and the visitor economy — ensuring our students are well prepared for their future careers.
Putting Sustainability First
Sustainability is at the heart of the project, with features built in to reduce environmental impact and future-proof the campus.
Plans include green roofs, solar panels, rain gardens and sustainable drainage systems, as well as reusing materials from the existing site wherever possible.
Working Together
This project is being delivered in partnership with Wates Construction, the Department for Education and AtkinsRéalis, with collaboration playing a key role in bringing the vision to life. Construction is now underway and will take place in two phases, with completion expected in 2028.
More Than a Building
For us, this development represents far more than bricks and mortar. It’s about creating opportunities, raising aspirations, and building a space where students, employers and the wider community can come together and thrive
As Principal and CEO Fidelma Washington shared:
“This is more than just a building — it’s a symbol of aspiration, a hub for learning, development and enterprise, and a place where our students, employers and community can thrive together.”
Looking Ahead
As progress continues, we’re excited to share this journey with you. This project marks the beginning of a new chapter for the College — one that will benefit learners for generations to come.
