There is no requirement for previous knowledge of accounts or bookkeeping. This is a non-qualification based course.
The course is for anyone with a general interest in a basic overview of bookkeeping. Students who wish to study accounting and would like to start their studies at AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting may choose to complete the course to gain the skills in double-entry bookkeeping which would be required to pass the Level 3 entrance test.
Basic bookkeeping provides an introduction to accounting and covers the main points of double-entry bookkeeping up to and including the trial balance, as well as petty cash, bank reconciliations and basic VAT.
Course will be over 3 days for 5 hours per day.
Classes will be via the Teams computer website and combine conventional lectures with practical task based learning exercises. In addition to scheduled classes students will be provided with a piece of homework to complete after each lesson to consolidate their learning.
As this is a non-qualification based course there is no final assessment.
On successful completion students may wish to continue their accounting studies on either the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting course or the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting course (subject to passing the entrance test on double-entry bookkeeping).
Students will require access to a computer for the duration of the course to be able to access the college Teams site.
Students would also find it helpful to have a pen, paper and a basic calculator available to use during the course.
