About Us

As the Island's largest College, we are embarking on an exciting period of expansion and growth across not only our main college site in Newport, but also our state-of-the-art CECAMM facility in Whippingham. To meet the growing needs of the staff we are looking to grow our HR Team to enable us to expand the services we provide, including the investment and implementation of new technology and new ways of working, which this role will play a pivotal part.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the IW College for a passionate and motivated HR Advisor to join our dedicated HR team, the working hours for this role are 35 hours over 5 days (which may be worked flexibly in agreement). This is a generalist role focusing on employee relations, onboarding, recruitment, learning and development activities and reward.

The ideal candidate will be joining a busy, committed team who provide an exceptional HR service offering advice and guidance to the all departments/teams across the college sites. The postholder will be able to effectively prioritise and manage a high volume of HR queries and provide quality first line HR advice/support to all staff, including the management teams.

The successful candidate will support the whole of the employee’s life cycle including leading on College wide wellbeing initiatives, supporting managers with employee relations, performance management, appraisals, absence management, recruitment and talent manager activities.

This role will primarily focus on supporting the curriculum and quality departments alongside supporting other areas when required. A high attention to detail is required as this role will assist with the preparation of monthly payroll administration.

About You

You will be CIPD qualified (or equivalent) or studying towards this qualification and be a current member of the CIPD.You will have a good understanding of employment legislation e.g., discrimination, TUPE, statutory rates, and payments and have relevant advisory experience.

You will be confident providing support and coaching to managers on all HR matters, including employee relation. In addition, you will have the ability to interpret policies and provide commercial HR advice.

You will have worked as an HR professional within a busy, fast paced environment, and thrive on providing excellent customer service to ensure best practice at all times.

You will have a “can-do attitude”, which enables you to prioritise workloads and manage conflicting deadlines and demands on you as an HR professional. As this role will be the first point of contact for all HR enquiries, you must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous experience of working in education would be an advantage, but not necessary.
