The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied. For this course, students should have achieved five or more GCSEs at Grade 4. These must include English and Maths.
Who the course is for
This qualification is aimed at people who hold the desired entry requirements and a keen interest to study and progress to work within the Sports industry. As the qualification carries UCAS points, the course is very suited to those who are interested in progressing to University, alternatively those wanting to develop their knowledge across a range of topics within Sport in order to seek further training and employment such as coaching, massage, instructing etc.
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

The course is split into a first and second year and over the duration, a range of units will be studied. These include the following examples:

  • Anatomy & physiology for sport
  • Sports nutrition
  • Psychology for sports performance
  • Preparing for a career in sport
  • Fitness testing
  • Sports injuries
  • Fitness training & programming
  • Sports leadership & coaching
How you will learn
You will undertake learning and assessment in a range of environments and methods. Examples would include classroom and ICT based learning, practical participation and demonstrations of competence within a a range of settings including sports-specific, gym-based, exercise studio and outdoors.
Progression
Successful applicants completing the full 2 years will achieve the equivalent of 3 A-levels and therefore the opportunity to progress to higher education. Learners would have the opportunities to study further CPD vocational qualifications in order to gain employment or apprenticeship in the sports industry.
