Entry requirements

View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).

We will work with you to determine your suitability for the qualification. Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3/D or above including Maths and English language, progressing students may require a minimum of Level 1 qualification in your chosen subject at Merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
Who the course is for
This qualification is aimed at people with a passion for sport and physical activity and a certain interest in studying to progress further in these industries.
What you will learn

You will undertake a number of units covering core knowledge and skills competencies in variety of topics within Sport and Active Leisure. Topics wil include:

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Exercise and Fitness
  • Practical Sport
  • Sports Psychology

Plus any other topics that tutors/co-ordinators feel necessary to include in learner’s development.

How you will learn
You will undertake learning and assessment in a range of environments and methods. Examples would include classroom and ICT based learning, practical participation and demonstrations of competence in Sport & Fitness-based activities.
Progression
This qualification allows you to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to progress to further study within the Spport & Fitness industry, including Sports Science, Gym Instructing & Personal Training, Public Services etc.
