Entry requirements

View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).

We will work with you to determine your suitability for the qualification. Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3/D or above including Maths and English language. Progressing students may require a minimum of a Level 1 qualification in your chosen subject at Merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
Who the course is for
This qualification is aimed at people with a passion for sport, physical activity and fitness.
What you will learn

You will undertake a number of units covering core knowledge and skills competencies in variety of topics within Sport and Active Leisure. Topics wil include:

  • Participating in sport
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Exercise and Nutrition
  • Exercise and Fitness
  • Sports Leadership and Coaching
  • Preparing for work in the Leisure Industry
How you will learn
You will undertake learning and assessment in a range of environments and methods. Examples would include classroom and ICT based learning, practical participation in sport and exercise and demonstrations of competence across a range of activities. Work experience and project-based learning will also be an integral part of this programme.
Progression
This qualification allows you to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to progress to further study within  Sport & Fitness, ranging from Sports Science and Coaching, to Gym Instructing and Personal Training.
