Who the course is for
This qualification is for those wanting to enter the Plumbing or Electrical industry. It gives you the opportunity to pick up some core skills and knowledge and gives you the opportunity to progress onto either our Level 2 & 3 Plumbing or Electrical Installation qualifications. These qualifications are aimed at learners who want to learn the basic skills and knowledge of Plumbing Installation.
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

If you are enrolled on the Plumbing qualification you will study installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems, above ground drainage, pipework (copper, plastic, low carbon steel) and plumbing science.  


  • Structure of the construction industry 

  • Fundamental safe working practices 

  • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings 

  • Site preparation in the construction industry


As well as other Plumbing related units 

How you will learn

You will be taught in a variety of ways to include workshops, lectures and seminars whilst also undertaking work skills, to help support and underpin the theoretical knowledge gained in class.  

This course is offered in conjunction with Functional Skills and GCSEs for English and Maths where required.  

Work placement
As a part of your course, you will be required to complete 36 hours of work skills.
After the successful completion of this course (subject to candidate review), learners can progress to employment or onto Level 2.

  • PPE is required for this course 
  • Work trousers or overalls – not jogging style trousers
