In order to be considered for a level 2 qualification Maths & English at grade 4 is essential

Who the course is for
Candidates who are looking to start their journey into the world of vehicle maintenance - City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (7290-17)
What you will learn

The Certificate is broken down into the following core modules 

  • Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment 
  • Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices in the Automotive Environment 
  • Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance 
  • Light Vehicle Engines (Mechanical, Lubrication and Colling Systems) 
  • Wider Skills and Knowledge (E.g. Employability, Equal Opportunities etc) 
  • Maths and English (Learners with Grade 4 or above will not have time tabled classes, but will still be working on these skills within vocational classes 
  • Knowledge of carrying out Non- High Voltage Operations on, Near or With an Electric Vehicle 
How you will learn
  • Theory classroom-based lessons 
  • Practical lessons based in the Motor Vehicle workshop 
  • eLearning/self-study and tutorial 

 

Work placement
All learners will either complete work-based skills in college or in a Industry related placement
Progression
Ideally to the following Level 2 Diploma (Full Level 2) the following year or an Apprenticeship (keep your eyes peeled for opportunities)

Qualifications you will get

A Level 2 Certificate in in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair 

Maths and English qualifications if applicable. 

Additional information
  • PPE & Uniform is required for this course and learners will not be allowed into the workshop/classrooms without the following
  • Work trousers or overalls – not jogging style trousers 
  • Safety foot wear, either boots, shoes or trainers 


      The college uses IDML in Newport for all its uniform and this can be bought directly from them. Simply go to IDML and say that you are a Motor Vehichle student and what level you are on as the colours change per level.
