Entry requirements

View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).

There are no specific entry requirements, just a willingness to learn and an interest in the subject. Once you have applied we will email you information on how to enrol and pay.
Who the course is for

This course is aimed at those who wish to extend and develop their creative and technical knowledge, by working more independently in their approach to image making and camera function.

What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

This course will enable you to understand the basics of camera operation, and develop a greater understanding of the various techniques involved in taking better photographs, along with improved knowledge of image composition and lighting. You will also learn how to be creative and experimental with your images, and develop skills to a more sophisticated level.

How you will learn
The classes will take place in the photography editing suite, and will include instruction and exploration through practical tasks. Weather permitting, we like to go outside to explore different light sources and environments. Our expert tutor will guide and support you throughout to help you progress both your skills and ideas. There are no assessments or exams. The PC’s in the suite operate Adobe CC software. We also have a fully equipped photographic studio and darkroom.
Progression
On completion of this course you could progress on to:
  • Advanced Photography
  • Other leisure courses at the college, including Creative Drawing or Exploring Art for Beginners
Fees
There is a standard fee of £98. However, please note that you could be eligible for funding for this course. The criteria are specific, so please contact the College for further information to see if you qualify.
Additional information

You will need a compact or SLR digital camera for this course, or access to one for the duration. We suggest that you bring a notebook or sketchbook with you plus a pen and pencil, to record notes and ideas. Please do not buy any new equipment for the course, as it is better to discuss options and choices with your tutor before you commit to any purchase.

Please note that all courses are subject to minimum numbers. If there are too few enrolments, the College may cancel the course. A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until enrolment is complete and any relevant fees are paid.
