Who the course is for
This course is for learners who are wanting to begin a career in hairdressing. This course introduces you into the hair and beauty sector focusing on basic hairdressing techniques alongside customer service skills and promotion of services.
What the interview will involve
You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the qualification.
What you will learn
Follow health and safety practice in the salon • Working in the hair and beauty industries • Client and Customer Skills • Promote yourself and prepare for a job interview • Promote and sell products and services to clients • Create an image based on a theme • Blowdry anf finish hair • Basic winding techniques • Shampoo and treat hair • Colour hair using semi permanent colour • Basic clipper cutting techniques for mens hair • Basic cutting techniques for women’s hair
How you will learn
Theory/ Workshop sessions- Here you will receive all the essential underpinning knowledge related to the subject area. These sessoions are for delivery and demonstration of the practical skills of your qualification Salon practical sessions- These are designed salon sessions in which you will gain confidence in working in a real salon environment, working on peers, family and friends As an essential part of learning all students will be expected to receive and complete treatments (unless medically exempt) within the practical sessions from peers.
Progression
• Interview for the level 2 Diploma in women’s hairdressing • Interview for the level 2 certificate in Barbering • Apprenticeship within the hair industry • Junior position within the hairdressing industry.

Additional information
All students are required to: • Wear a course uniform (purchased by yourself via the college) • Wear full black covered shoes • Present yourself in a professional capacity, relating to industry standards • Have hair fully up and off the face for all sessions within the salons • Wear no jewellery (a wedding band can be worn) • No nail extensions or nail polish.
