Applications which do not meet the stated entry criteria in full may be approved as an exceptional entry, based on a review by the assistant principal 

Who the course is for
This course is for learners who are wanting to begin a career in the beauty . This course introduces you into the hair and beauty sector focusing on basic beauty treatments alongside customer care.??
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

How you will learn

Theory/ Workshop sessions- Here you will receive all the essential underpinning knowledge related to the subject area. These sessoions are for delivery and demonstration of the practical skills of your qualification? 

Salon practical sessions- These are designed salon sessions in which you will gain confidence in working in a real salon environment, working on peers, family and friends? 

Practical- As an essential part of learning all students will be expected to receive and complete treatments (unless medically exempt) within the practical sessions from peers.?? 

E-Learning- This session is a computer based class where you will use technology to produce work and study independentaly, with the support and guidance from your tutor. Please note E-learning will be competed at college.?? 

Tutorial Sessions- These are designed to support your individual academic progress, and to monitor your course progression by way of action planning and review.?? 


Work placement
Work skills is completed as part of the level 1 Diploma in an introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Interview for the level 2 Diploma in beauty therapy? 
  • Apprenticeship within the beauty industry? 

If you are taking a full-time course, you will be charged a Central Admin Fee of up to £40 at the start of your course. In addition to this there will be a cost involved for purchasing any essential equipment or uniform for your course; you may be eligible for financial support from the college Bursary team, please ask your tutor for more information.

Qualifications you will get
City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in an introduction to the hair and beauty sector
Additional information

Professional presentation

All students are required to:? 

  • Wear a course uniform (purchased by yourself via the college)
  • Wear full black covered shoes
  • Present yourself in a professional capacity, relating to industry standards
  • Have hair fully up and off the face for all sessions within the salons
  • Wear no jewellery (a wedding band can be worn)
  • No nail extensions or nail polish.
