Entry requirements
View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).
This is an intensive GCSE programme, and entrants are therefore required to have already achieved GCSE Maths at grade 3 (D), or to possess an Adult Numeracy or Functional Skills Maths qualification at level 2. You will also need to complete an entry test to a satisfactory standard and to attend an information session before you can be offered a place on this course. If you are not sure about the suitability of this course, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.
Who the course is for
This one year ‘Fast Track’ course is suitable for those who require a GCSE in mathematics at grade 4 (C) or above to progress to further study on College programmes such as Access to Higher Education, or for those who plan to study at degree level, as the great majority of universities now expect applicants to have a good GCSEs in this subject. Good levels of math skills are also extremely valuable when seeking employment or alternative job opportunities.

What you will learn
The programme has been designed to enable learners to study for, and to take either the ‘Foundation’ or ‘Higher’ tier paper. The course covers the following areas:
- Number
- Ratio and proportion
- Algebra
- Geometry
- Data
How you will learn
Our weekly 3-hour classes are held at a variety of times/days including evenings on site at the college. We will direct you to relevant resources available to you outside of the classroom. To gain the qualifications you need, regular attendance is essential.

Progression
A grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths is a requirement for most level 3 courses and ACCESS to Higher Education. It is also part of the entry criteria for the great majority of university courses. It can also help to improve job prospects as most employers require grade 4 or above in both English and Maths.
Fees
The course is free for anyone who has not yet achieved a Grade C or 4 or above.
