This 25 week ‘Fast Track’ Functional Skills programme is suitable for those who would like to work towards achieving an accredited Functional Skills qualification and who already have a solid foundation of English which can be built upon in order to achieve a successful outcome.

When you apply for the class you will need to complete an assessment to a satisfactory standard to identify skills gaps and determine if you are ready to undertake the Functional Skills English programme.

Functional skills English is a part-time course for students who want to develop their English skills but who are not quite ready for GCSE. We offer both Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications; these qualifications aim to help students develop a range of English skills that can be applied to different scenarios.

If you are not successful in your application to study January start English Functional Skills tutors will be on hand to support with next steps.

Who the course is for

Anyone who already has a solid foundation of English but would like to improve this further.

Good English skills can be life enhancing, improve your job prospects and support your studies if you are planning to continue into further education.

How you will learn

Our weekly 2-hour classes are held at a variety of times/days including evenings on site at the college. We will direct you to relevant resources available to you outside of the classroom. To gain the qualifications you need, regular attendance is essential.

Progression
The Functional Skills qualification is recognised by an increasing number of universities and employers and aims to equip students with the essential maths skills needed to use in everyday life and work. We do recommend that if you are planning to go to university that you contact them to confirm that they will accept this qualification.
Fees
The course is free for anyone who has not yet achieved a Grade 4 (C) or above.
