None! When you join one of our courses you will undertake initial assessments which will identify your English level. This information will be used to create an individual learning plan and ensure you are placed on the correct level Functional Skills programme. We are dedicated to ensuring that you are supported in the areas you need in order to gain these core qualifications. Learning Support is also available if applicable.
Who the course is for

Anyone who feels their skills in English could be improved. Good English skills can be life enhancing and improve your job prospects and support your studies if you are planning to continue into further education.

Functional skills English is a part-time course for students who want to develop their English skills but who are not quite ready for GCSE. We offer both Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications; these qualifications aim to help students develop a range of English skills that can be applied to different scenarios.

This is a nationally accredited qualification recognised by employers, colleges and some universities. We offer a variety of days and times, including evenings at The College and our experienced team will support you throughout your studies.

How you will learn
Our weekly 2-hour classes are held at a variety of times/days including evenings on site at the college. We will direct you to relevant resources available to you outside of the classroom. To gain the qualifications you need, regular attendance is essential.

Progression
The Functional Skills qualification is recognised by an increasing number of universities and employers and aims to equip students with the essential English skills needed to use in everyday life and work. We do recommend that if you are planning to go to university that you contact them to confirm that they will accept this qualification.
Fees
The course is free for anyone who has not yet achieved a Grade C or 4 or above.
