Progression from HNC Mechanical or HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a pass in the pre-assessment.
Who the course is for
This course is for anyone already working within the engineering sector who would like gain a higher-level qualification to reflect their experience.
What the interview will involve

Unlike courses that are applied for at the main College, you will need to apply via the University of Portsmouth Website, UCAS code H100: https://www.port.ac.uk/study/courses/hnd-general-engineering#apply. 

Once we receive your application you will be sent an information sheet and a pre-assessment for you to complete.  The pre-assessment is a guide for us to establish if you have the pre-requisite knowledge to be able to be successful in your studies. 

What you will learn

Year 1 

Optional modules in this year include: 

  • Computer-aided Machining – 15 credits 
  • Digital and Analogue Devices And Circuits – 15 credits 
  • Electrical and Electronic Measurement And Testing – 15 credits 
  • Electrical and Electronic Principles – 15 credits 
  • Engineering Thermodynamics – 15 credits 
  • Mechanical Principles – 15 credits 

 

Year 2 

Core modules in this year include: 

  • Heat Transfer and Combustion – 15 credits 
  • Manufacturing Process – 15 credits 
  • Materials Engineering – 15 credits 
  • Strengths of Materials – 15 credits 

There are no optional modules in this year.

You'll also need to do around 120 hours of self-directed learning for each module. 

 

The course is offered as day release for one day a week at CECAMM. You’ll also do work-based learning, working with colleagues to put what you've learned in the classroom into practical use.

Progression
When you graduate from this course, you'll have the skills and experience demanded by the sector. Once you finish the course, you will be able to ‘top up’ your HND to a full Bachelor’s Degree by joining the final year of an Engineering BEng. or BSc at the University of Portsmouth.

Our level 2 courses are free *(if you are 19-24 years old you must have a full level 2 qualification already to be eligible for free funding. More eligibility criteria apply). Contact us if you need more information on funding.

Failure to complete the course will incur an admin cost.
