Entry requirements

View The Isle of Wight College's standard entry requirements for full-time college courses (depending on the level of the course to be studied).

Applicants will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 4-9(A-C) or above including Mathematics, English and ideally Science, together with a Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Installation.  All candidates need to produce references and to be successful at interview.

Because of the practical content of the course, general hand skills and hand/eye co-ordination are essential. Applicants must declare any difficulty with colour perception, as employment opportunities may be restricted

Who the course is for
It is intended for the trainee apprentice electrician who is working towards an electrical NVQ at Level 3, or candidates who have completed a level 2 in electrical installation work. This technical certificate will contribute towards the underpinning knowledge requirements of the Electrotechnical NVQ Level 3( 5357).
What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn

The Level 3 (2365)City and Guilds  Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation. It is a college-based learning qualification. You will learn:

How you will learn

Delivery, research and self study to enable successful achievement of the follwing units :

  • 301 Understand the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems -  Assessment, On-line test.
  • 302 Principles of Electrical Science – Assessment, Practical assignment + written paper
  • 303 Electrical installations: fault diagnosis and rectification – Assessment, practical tasks + On-line test
  • 304 Electrical Installations: Inspection, Testing and Commissioning – Assessment, written assignment + Practical tasks + Online test
  • 305 Electrical Systems Design -  Assessment, written Assignment
  • 308 Career awareness in building services engineering -  Assessment, written Assignments
Opportunities exist to proceed to the Level 3 City and Guilds 2365 Technical Certificate or the Level 3 NVQ Diploma City and Guilds 5357

If you are taking a full-time course, you will be charged a Central Admin Fee of up to £40 at the start of your course. In addition to this there will be a cost involved for purchasing any essential equipment or uniform for your course; you may be eligible for financial support from the college Bursary team, please ask your tutor for more information.
