Entry requirements

We will work with you to determine your suitability for the qualification, this will involve the completion of initial assessments for Maths and English, and a skills scan. There is an expectation that you will have already completed the Care Certificate.
Who the course is for

This qualification is aimed at staff who are leading/supervising practice and other team members in settings such as residential care homes, nursing homes, domiciliary care, supported living, reablement services, or working as personal assistants.

This course is a part time option and is suitable for students 19+ who are already in employment

What the interview will involve

You will be sent a career plan prior to your interview date to complete and bring along with you on the day. The interview is a two-way process which will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and suitability with the subject tutor.

What you will learn
The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care is a work-based learning qualification which was previously known as an NVQ. It covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to be a competent practitioner in a more senior or experienced position within Social Care settings. A variety of mandatory and optional units will be covered, including communication, equality and diversity, health and safety, duty of care, handling information, and safeguarding.
How you will learn
You will undertake a number of mandatory units covering core knowledge and skills competencies, which build on those that have been developed whilst completing the Care Certificate, along with optional specialisms which can be combined in flexible ways to reflect the real context of the setting you work in. This method of delivery allows for a flexible approach which is tailored to each learner. You will have a qualified assessor who will meet with you regularly to help you build a portfolio of evidence, which will consist of written work, workplace observations, verbal discussions and other types of evidence. You will have access to a range of learning resources whilst you complete your qualification.
Progression
This qualification allows you to learn, develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for employment and/or career progression in Adult Care within a role which has some autonomy, delegated responsibility or where there may be a need for supervision of others. Following successful completion, you can progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care or the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, providing you are in an appropriate job role.
Fees

If you are taking a full-time course, you will be charged a Central Admin Fee of up to £40 at the start of your course. In addition to this there will be a cost involved for purchasing any essential equipment or uniform for your course; you may be eligible for financial support from the college Bursary team, please ask your tutor for more information.
