The Advanced Sports Science Programme will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of sports science and coaching, and provide a detailed understanding of the many elements to the sports industry. You will have the chance to develop practical skills for the industry through a work experience placement, which the college will help learners to access and set up.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is for students who enjoy academically rigorous learning. It is for anyone who wants to be prepared for work in a professional sport & leisure setting, or within sports teaching, or who plan to continue their studies at university.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

This is an opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in sport and physical activity (sports science pathway). The programme will also cover employability skills, to prepare learners for a range of future careers.

On the Level 3 course you will gain a wide range of knowledge and skills including how to:

  • Design and conduct training sessions for skilled players.
  • Develop the skills used by particular playing positions in a range of team sports
  • Skills and qualities required for managing and leading a team
  • Technical and tactical skills of team sports.
  • Develop strategies including formations, team shape
  • Design training programmes, including fitness routines
  • Identify and adapt sports activities and sessions for a variety of age groups.
  • Identify personal development opportunities in sport including administration and officiating.
  • Promote and establish working relationships between players, coaches, parents and officials.

You will be assessed by a mixture of written projects, investigations, assignments and practical assessment.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?

Students who successfully complete this two year course may progress onto a related degree programme. Alternatively, successful students will be in a position to apply for employment in professional sports settings or complete a higher level apprenticeship. Degree programmes which learners could progress to include:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All full time students pay a resource fee plus approx. £115. This cost covers all central fees plus the required course kit which all learners must wear for both practical and academic sessions For information on support and funding available to students, please call Student Services on 01983 550581.
