Entry Requirements

Minimum of three GCSEs grade 2/E or equivalent including English Language.

The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied.

There may be additional entry requirements for a small number of specialist courses. If this course is one of these specialist courses, additional entry requirements will be stated below.

Applications which do not meet the stated entry criteria in full may be approved as an exceptional entry, based on a review by the Assistant Principal

What Will I Learn?

  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • Follow health and safety in the salon
  • Working with others in the hair and beauty industry
  • Create a hair and beauty image
  • Create an image using colour
  • Shampoo and conditioning
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Styling women’s hair
  • Styling men’s hair
  • Colour hair using temporary colour

PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO:

  • Wear a course uniform (Purchased by yourself via the college)
  • Wear full black covered shoes
  • Present themselves in a professional capacity, relating to the industry standards

CURRENT LEGISLATION IN RELATION TO CLOSE CONTACT WORKING

Full PPE must be worn when completing treatments (face shield, type II medical mask, apron, Gloves). This is a mandatory requirement for all students to wear, no exceptions.

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I BE STUDYING?

VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector (500/8707/1)

How Will I Learn?

You will learn by Skills Workshops and Practical learning in our salons working on ‘real clients’.

You will also undertake a cutting programme and develop hairdressing skills to a higher level in preparation for hairdressing level 2.

Task Based Learning enables you to gain an understanding of essential theoretical knowledge via research, oral questioning, independent tests and the production of written assessed evidence.

Tutorials & target setting will support your learning and achievement.

Work experience in a salon placement is encouraged in order to gain an insight into this demanding profession.

What Can The Course Lead To?

Successful completion of Level 1 & 2 will enable you to apply for an interview for Hairdressing Level 3.
