There is an applied programme of practical and theory, directed private study, laboratory practical work, and industrial visits. In addition to technical subjects, personal and interpersonal skills are developed and assessed as an integral part of the course as well as the Functional Skills, ICT, Maths and English.  Continuous assessment of performance is carried out by means of classroom and laboratory work and practical assignment workshops. All modules are formally assessed and final grades are subject to moderation by the course team and a representative from City & Guilds.

Successful students can train, for example, as engineering apprentice or progress to the colleges Intermediate level and Advanced Level Engineering courses. Career planning and team building is actively encouraged on all Engineering courses.
