Accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

Regulated by Ofqual, SQA Accreditation, Qualification Wales and The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA).

Students will have to have successfully completed the following:

  • AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting
  • Grade 4 (C) GCSE Maths and English or equivalent qualifications
  • Interview with Course Co-ordinator

The course is for those who have completed the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and wish to further develop their skills, knowledge and career in accountancy.

The AAT courses cover all aspects of accounting including financial accounting, management accounting and taxation. A detailed prospectus is available for each level and more information is available on the AAT website at www.aat.org.uk.

The 4 core modules of the course are:

  • Financial Statements of Limited Companies
  • Management Accounting: Decision and Control,
  • Management Accounting: Budgeting
  • Accounting Systems and Controls

Plus the following 4 option modules:

  • Credit Management
  • External Auditing
  • Personal Tax
  • Business Tax

Students must pass all of the 4 core modules and 2 of the option modules in order to gain the qualification.

Level 4 students will be required to attend college for 3 hours per week over 2 years. In certain circumstances students may be able to complete in 14 months if they could attend for 2 sessions each week. This option would require an exceptionally high level of commitment and students would need to discuss their options with the course co-ordinator prior to making any firm decision.

Classes will combine conventional lectures with practical task based learning exercises. In addition to scheduled classes students are provided with work books which they are expected to study and work through at home. Students should expect to study at home for a minimum of 5 hours per week if course is taken over two years and 10 hours per week if course is taken over 1 year. Students will also be given guidance on how to use the college intranet.

Assessment at Level 4 is by computer based examinations set by the AAT.

On successful completion of level 4 the student will be highly employable in many accounting functions. They will also be entitled to claim exemptions from some stages of the chartered accountant qualifications.

On completion of one year’s relevant practical experience the student will be eligible for full membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians.

Students who achieve the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting may also receive first year exemptions from some university courses.

This course will be undertaken at The Isle of Wight College.

If you require further information and/or advice about these courses please contact the AAT course co-ordinator, Juliet Burden.
