COURSE INFORMATION

Part-time (1day a week)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students should have the following:

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3/D or above including Maths and English language

Art and Design courses may also require a relevant qualification in a creative subject.

Progressing students may require a minimum of Level 1 qualification in your chosen subject and English language and Maths at Level 1.

The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied.

There may be additional entry requirements for a small number of specialist courses. If this course is one of these specialist courses, additional entry requirements will be stated below.

VTCT have a pre-requisite for the level 2 award in infection prevention which must be achieved as part of their main qualification. In some instances, there will be a registration fee of £20 which will be discussed within your induction

Applications which do not meet the stated entry criteria in full may be approved as an exceptional entry, based on a review by the Assistant Principal.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

Anyone thinking of a career in Beauty Therapy, a passion and interest for the industry.

As a society we are becoming more aware of the need to take better care of ourselves. As a result there is an increasing demand for professional therapists. Beauty therapists are concerned with improving people’s physical appearance and well being, either through offering treatments for the face and body to recommending special products. All students will attend 1 day a week.  A high level of attendance is essential to achieve this intensive course.

PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION

All students are required to:

  • Wear a course uniform (Purchased by yourself via the college)
  • Wear full black covered shoes
  • Have hair fully up and off the face for all sessions within the salons
  • Wear no Jewellery ( a wedding band can be worn)
  • Not have nail extensions or polish on. Short filed nails essential to carry out treatments

CURRENT LEGISLATION IN RELATION TO CLOSE CONTACT WORKING

Full PPE must be worn when completing treatments (face shield, type II medical mask, apron, Gloves). This a mandatory requirement for all students to wear, no exceptions.

HOW WILL I LEARN?

The course has been designed to meet student requirements in a modular format. Students have assignments, oral questions and independent assessment written papers to support each relevant area of learning. This will be proof that students have mastered a particular aspect of the trade. The course will also involve group work, research tasks and role plays, and a considerable amount of home study and practice of Beauty skills.

As an essential part of learning all students will be expected to receive and complete treatments (unless medically exempt) within the practical session from peers.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?

Successful students can progress to related course by interview. Typical employment prospects in the beauty industry: Beauty therapist at a salon, Cruise ships, Health farms, self-employed therapist.
