Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4/C or above normally including Maths and English language; grade 4/C or above in a relevant subject qualification is sometimes required

Intermediate Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up.

The Isle of Wight College has standard entry requirements for full-time college courses, depending on the level of the course to be studied.

There may be additional entry requirements for a small number of specialist courses. If this course is one of these specialist courses, additional entry requirements will be stated below.

Level 2 hair and media make-up

Applications which do not meet the stated entry criteria in full may be approved as an exceptional entry, based on a review by the Assistant Principal

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • Health and Safety
  • Client care and Communication
  • Promote services and products to clients
  • Design and apply face and body art
  • Media make-up
  • Fashion and photographic make-up
  • Camouflage make-up
  • Apply airbrush make-up to the face

PROFESSIONAL PRESENTATION

All students are required to:

  • Wear a course uniform (Purchased by yourself via the college)
  • Wear full black covered shoes
  • Have hair fully up and off the face for all sessions within the salons
  • Wear no Jewellery ( a wedding band can be worn)
  • Not have nail extensions or polish on. Short filed nails essential to carry out treatments

CURRENT LEGISLATION IN RELATION TO CLOSE CONTACT WORKING

Full PPE must be worn when completing treatments (face shield, type II medical mask, apron, Gloves). This a mandatory requirement for all students to wear, no exceptions.

HOW WILL I LEARN?

The course is delivered by specialist staff, which possess industry experience along with specialist qualifications. Teaching sessions incorporate a mixture of activities to ensure students develop skills and knowledge.

Students are assessed through a combination of internally assessed coursework, practical skills and externally assessed examinations. This helps students to develop core skills required for the hair & make-up industry which include the ability to meet deadlines and retention of knowledge as well as application of skills.

As an essential part of learning all students will be expected to receive and complete treatments (unless medically exempt) within the practical session from peers.

WORK EXPERIENCE

As part of your programme of study you may be expected to complete external work experience. This will give you occupationally specific training focussed on developing knowledge and practical skills gained in your college sessions.

ENGLISH AND MATHS

As part of this course you will attend English and maths sessions if you are aged between 16-18 years old.

These classes will be with subject specialists and delivered at a level to suit you.
