Today (Tuesday 12th July), our motor vehicle department have taken delivery of a very exciting new piece of equipment for the EV (Electric Vehicle) training from Lee Trussler of Block Automotive.
The equipment has been purchased by the Isle of Wight College using the STF fund, as was the Nissan electric vehicle which exactly mirrors this training tool (based on a Nissan Leaf, with drive shafts, hubs and wheels). This electric vehicle trainer will be invaluable to the college, allowing students to work with the latest technology in electric transportation.
This really will change everything for motor vehicle training at the college. It allows tutors to set certain common faults which students will then be tasked with using diagnostic tools to identify and resolve the problem. It runs as if it were on the road but remains completely stationary.

Colin Gibbs, Head of Motor Vehicle studies at the college has said that this will be fantastic for not only our own students, but also for local businesses to up-skill their employees, particularly smaller garages.
If you'd like to find out more about Electric Vehicles on the Isle of Wight, then pop over to the Isle of Wight College on Sunday 31st July when we are hosting the Going Electric event.
