Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for Hallam’s Blinds as a Manufacturing Operative.

This is a unique opportunity to join a thriving business working as a Manufacturing apprentice.

Hallams Blinds are a family-based company located in Newport on The Isle of Wight. The company specialise in an extensive variety of blinds including Roller, Pleated, Vertical and Panel.

The business pride themselves on providing an excellent service, manufacturing and selling products of the highest standard at competitive prices.

Rather excitingly, the business is now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic apprentice to join their small friendly team to manufacture roller and vertical blinds as well as gaining knowledge of all products to include operation and repairs of all other blind systems.

Full training will be provided to the right candidate who will be working towards a Lean Manufacturing Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Tasks and Responsibilities will include:

  • Blind manufacturer/fitter working within the showroom
  • Quality control
  • Potential opportunities to fit blinds at customers premises
  • Maintaining appropriate filing systems

Essential Skills:

  • Good level of Maths & English required
  • Manners and respect towards other staff
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Reliable in time keeping/attendance
  • Team player
  • Confidence to interact with others/customers
  • Confident to work alone and manage own projects but equally confident to work within a team
  • Enthusiastic to learn about the business

Qualifications Required:

GCSE grade C/4 or above in English & Maths (or equivalent qualification and/or ability to work towards these Functional Skills) 

Apprenticeship Standard: 

  • Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English if required and if not previously achieved GCSE grade 4/C or above
  • There is a requirement to complete 20% off the job training, time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not in your usual role will also be counted
  • Attendance at CECAMM as required

Working Week:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 9am – 5pm


  • Starting wage will be £172 per week with regular reviews

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
