Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for RPL Construction.

This is a unique opportunity for a Trainee Painter & Decorator. RPL Construction has over 30 years’ experience across a wide range of building projects. They regularly work with architects, estate agents, surveyors, developers, commercial enterprises, and residential owners to realise their clients’ vision. The role will involve stripping back old buildings to bare surfaces and undertaking heritage quality restoration and preparing for new decorations, there will be modern new builds utilising state of the art products and commercial/industrial experience. You will learn and experience a vast array of decorating techniques throughout the apprenticeship.

Tasks and Responsibilities will include:

  • You will need to have your own transport due to the location.

Qualifications Required

  • Ideally 5 GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent qualification) in English and maths.

Apprenticeship Standard

  • Painting & Decorating Level 2 Apprentcieship
  • Apprenticeship duration will be 36 Months with 3 Months EPA
  • Functional Skills – if not already achieved a GCSE C (or above) in maths and English (or equivalent qualification) 
  • There is a requirement to complete 20% off job training, College attendance will contribute but time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work you that is not your usual role will also be counted

Working Week

  • 40 hours a week
  • A minimum of 1 day per week to be spent at the college in training.

Wage

  •  £280.00 per week

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £4.30per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
