The primary role of a Property Maintenance Operative is to optimise property condition and quality and to ensure the building is kept in a safe working condition. Property Maintenance Operatives need to maintain a high level of quality, providing maximum satisfaction to customers, clients, guests and team.
They will understand the mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment. They will provide first and immediate response to fault finding, whilst maximising quality and ensuring cost effectiveness. They will ensure prevention of major damage that could result in extensive costs and minimise reactive intervention.
There are no formal entry requirements but each employer might state their own requirements.
The apprenticeship will typically take a minimum of 12 months to complete.
Apprentices will complete work-based learning and will be paid a wage, gaining valuable knowledge and experience. In-house training will be provided by the employer with an Assessor visiting and supporting in the work place. This apprenticeship includes 1 day a week in college for the technical knowledge and practical skills delivery.
The standard includes maths and English understanding and functional application at Level 1, enabling apprentices to aspire to the next level.
A portfolio of evidence (20%) and a short research assignment (10%) will be completed throughout the apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship will end with an End Point Assessment (EPA). This measures the skills, knowledge and behaviours each apprentice has developed. Employers will decide when the apprentice is ready to be assessed.
